Blockfort has invited the popular ceramics workshop The Kiln Room to take over our galleries. For this exhibition, Eric Rausch (Kiln Room Founder), will be inviting artists from Kiln Room’s rich community to exhibit work that highlights their connection to the material. For all of the challenges that arise while woking with it, clay is a unique material that rewards personal practice and patience. It is this connection to clay that unites us together, this exhibition will celebrate the various artistic possibilities of the material.
Ceramic work from over two dozen artists are on display in the Blockfort Gallery. Eric has selected and curated an exhibition of hand built, wheel thrown, and sculptural pieces. In addition, Gallery B is being turned into a pop-up shop for those looking to purchase production pieces to take home immediately. The opening reception is Thursday, September 1, from 6-8pm. Kiln Room LLC (established in 2019) is an artist run, community centered, ceramic production studio. Located on the South Side of Columbus, Kiln Room is proud to be building a manufacturing business, while also building a community for people interested in making clay art.
The community studio in Kiln Room is host to 50+ artists working in clay using all types of processes, and achieving all sorts of different conceptual results. It’s a veritable amalgam of styles, functional pottery, figurative sculpture, hand built vessels, tile mosaics… all coming together in a community of supportive people.
