Lasting Legacies

Throughout history, women have always persevered. Fighting through boundaries to share their thoughts and ideas, to make society and the world a better place. Often others downplay their accomplishments, steal credit, or try to erase them from history.

This March, for Women’s History Month, Blockfort will be hosting an exhibition, Lasting Legacies representing these women.

Women History Month had originated as just one week in 1981. Over the course of the next five years, Congress had been petitioned by the National Women’s History Project to increase the celebration of women’s accomplishments from a week to a month. Women’s History Month was not officially recognized until 1987, with annual proclamations being paced by presidents ever since 1995.

Lasting Legacies is guest curated by Panagiota Kourniotis, a current Illustration student at Columbus College of Art and Design. A list of featured artists has been selected to celebrate trailblazing women through their art.

Artists in the show include Clara Jenkins, Emi Gennis, Evangelia Philippidis, April Sunami, Erin Hogarty, Lisa McLymont, Sarah Hout, Liz Morrison, Mandi Caskey, Lydia Stutzman, Panagiota Kourniotis, Kayla Freeman-Haynes and Zoe Stark.
