Elaina Workley is a Columbus-based printmaker whose work often delves into a melancholic lens, using the repetitive techniques of printmaking to iterate shared vulnerabilities with her audience. In Flotsam for Solace, she uses her escapist coping mechanisms of daydreaming & mysticism and her fascination with Victorian mourning rituals, to dissect and process grief for the world at large. By giving an ethereal embodiment to our emotional flotsam through celestial bodies or mourning jewelry, she hopes to create pieces of comfort by witnessing shared pain, or reestablishing hope. In these moments of melancholy that may seem like worthless wallowing, may we look at our grief head on and see a semblance of comfort in feeling it at all.
The work will be on display in Gallery B from April 3-26. An opening reception will be held on April 3, 6-8pm.
